Sensorium Volunteers

The people who set everything up before the day begins and are the last ones out — and who are the reason the day feels held rather than run.

What they do

Volunteers hold the day together

A Sensorium day looks effortless from the inside, and that is the work. Everything gets set up before anyone arrives, sessions get reset one to the next, vendors get helped through load-in, and the first face anybody meets at the door sets the tone for everything after it.

Nobody is expected to arrive knowing how it works. Every role is shown to you on site, and you are never the only person doing it.

Where you might land

Seven kinds of help

Pick anything that appeals on the application — most volunteers do two or three across a day.

Early

Setup & Load-in

Setting up before the day begins. The quiet hours that decide how the rest of the day goes.

Front door

Greeting & Check-in

The first face anybody meets. Warm, calm and unflappable, which is a skill.

Sessions

Zone Support

Supporting a practitioner’s session — timing, resets and flow between sessions.

Marketplace

Vendor Support

Helping makers and brands load in, set up and get through the day.

Family

Youth & Family Zone

Programming for kids and the people who brought them.

Capture

Photo & Video

Catching the day as it happens, for the people who were not there.

Late

Teardown

The last ones out. Quiet, satisfying, and deeply appreciated.

What you get

It is not unpaid work, it is a way in

  • A ticket to the day’s programme. Volunteers attend the sessions they are not rostered on.
  • Food through the day. The crew eats with everyone else.
  • Hours that count. A share of every ticket goes to non-profit partners, and volunteer hours can be logged toward their programmes.
  • The people. Practitioners, makers and organisers, met while doing something together rather than across a booth.

Rooted locally

Community service, in the community it serves

Sensorium is built on the conviction that real transformation happens in community rather than in isolation — and that applies to the people running it as much as the people attending. Volunteering here is the shortest route into the whole ecosystem at once.
